The 1st Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders famously deployed to South Arabia in 1967 during the Aden Emergency. Under the command of the charismatic Lieutenant-Colonel Colin Mitchell, they notably recaptured the turbulent, rebel-held "Crater" district on 3–4 July, restoring British control
The Operation: Following a mutiny by the South Arabian police and the ambush of British troops in June 1967, morale was low. Lt-Col. Mitchell (nicknamed "Mad Mitch") led his "Glengarried men" to re-enter and secure the Crater district, which had been declared a no-go zone
